Chief Executive Officer
It has been a quite rewarding year for us at the SLUNCF – thankful that we have been able to navigate some serious global challenges – the lingering impact of COVID-19; global inflationary pressures, especially for food, and tempered economic growth. These challenges are having a pernicious impact on local community life which then creates pressure on our natural resources as citizens seek alternatives to care and fend for themselves and their families. We have tried to orient the Fund to be more responsive to local needs and perhaps provide sustainable options through grants and skills training opportunities that could help to potentially improve the material condition of our fellow citizens while at the same time protecting our natural assets. We cannot declare that we have achieved this goal entirely but I can also hasten to declare that we are not far off the mark either. Dedicated work with partners and collaborators, and a supportive Board, have put us en route to making a more impactful investment in the local community in programmes such as climate-smart agriculture; sustainable livelihoods, coral reef management, and climate change resilience. I can also say that there is much to look forward to in 2023 and we can only hope that those who have come along with us thus far will continue to in the same spirit of collaboration and common purpose.
I want to thank immensely my team at the SLUNCF Secretariat and a very supportive Chairperson and Board of Directors; our current donors and project partners for tremendous contributions during the year. We also look forward to new partnerships that serve to consolidate and strengthen the SLUNCF as a unique institution that continues to be adaptable and responsive for the greater good of our country Saint Lucia.
Merry Christmas and a new year of blessings and prosperity to you and your families.
